Hi, and welcome to Poop in a Coop, the
web page for Redmond's Rare Poultry Roost chicken farm. We're
glad you
stopped by.We're here just to have a little
fun, as you can guess by the name, and to share a little of
our lives with our birds with you. Our birds mean a tremendous
deal to us. Without them, our day to day lives simply wouldn't
have much
spark, if you know what I mean.
We have a few endangered varieties, according to the SPPA (Society for
the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities), that we like
to take to poultry shows. They are
so pretty! And most have
really good temperaments as well. This is certainly an added
bonus to the beautiful feathers.
We don't claim that our birds are "show quality" but that is definitely
our goal. Some
local competition at the poultry shows would be a lot of fun. We
have a couple of the more rare breeds/varieties and don't see much
competition within the breeds that we have chosen to raise and show.
We hope to have enough birds to sell in the near future to anyone who
might want some of these beauties. Since
I am trying to raise my own show birds, I cannot sell young stock until
I know what I have and whether or not it is worth keeping for showing
or for breeding. I will only sell birds that I would want to
keep. That way, you are assured of getting a good bird.
However, I don't think you'll blame me if I refuse to sell my very best
birds. If you don't care about showing and just want some really pretty
living decorations for your yard, let me know and I can sell you
some of my "cull" birds. These are birds that aren't worthy of
showing
and I sell at my local poultry auction, but are still very
pretty. They usually have some fault that would cause them
to be disqualified at the shows. I will also have nicer birds for
sale if you are interested in showing. Buying birds would require that
you
also
purchase the shipping box and pay all shipping fees. Or I can
deliver to shows that I attend or if there are no local shows between
us and it's feesible to meet you half way, we could possibly arrange
that.
You can click on the "Our Birds" button to see our birds, meet me, my
daughter, or
my son. Dad isn't much interested in the birds himself but he
sees that it makes us happy and so he goes along. Isn't he a
great guy? We are a Christian family and though we won't
overburden you with our lifestyle, we won't hide it either so just
relax when you see references to our belief in our Lord.
Our children are both in 4H in the poultry project. Mostly the
fancy ones and some that are endangered.
So, hop on over the fence and take a stroll around the farm... but you
better watch where you're putting your feet. Remember, this is a
FARM and we have lots of POOP in our coops but the free-range yard-bird
style chickens like to share and so they spread theirs around!
